World Premiere of commissioned work "Grow" by The Philadelphia Performing Arts: A String Theory Charter School

The premiere of my piece "Grow" for SATB, children's choir, and orchestra. Text written by the creative writing class at the String Theory school.

Text:

In the heart of a seed buried deep
A tiny plant sleeps in the ground.
“Wake,” says the sun, touching the world with its light and warmth.
“Wake,” says the rain, tickling the earth
“Wake,” whispers the wind through the wind chimes
The little plant hears and rises up,
unfolding origami leaves and
spreading vines
over the rich brown earth.
“Wake,” says the world, and
the world watches it grow.

The vines . . .
The vines they grow,
The wind’s cool fingers pulling them skyward
The sun’s warm breath holding them aloft
The rain’s laugh falling into the ground
and dancing with the delicate roots.
Green leaves,
Brown roots
cared for and nurtured by
the world.
The world watches it grow.
